WHO had estimated the 8.7% of the population in Sri Lanka is living with sort of disability. Primary health care, prevention of disability and rehabilitation services are facilitated to the general public via MOH, Divisional, District and National hospitals by the Ministry of Health of Sri Lanka. The service providers’ information on the health care and prevention of the disability is classified as per the types of disability.
Prevention and Medical care; education on the nutrition, sanitation, disability prevention is essential and the service providers’ information is available for further inquiry.
Physical Disability: A physical disability is a substantial and long-term condition affecting a part of a person’s body that impairs and limits their physical functioning, mobility, stamina or dexterity.
Mental Disability: A mental disability is a cognitive or psychological condition that limits a major life activity in some way or requires special services
Development Disability: In general, a developmental disability includes, but is not limited to, people who have an intellectual disability, autism, cerebral palsy or physical developmental delays.
Neurological Disability: Neurological impairments are medically defined as disorders that affect the brain as well as the nerves found throughout the human body and the spinal cord.
Visual Impairment: Visual impairment are defined as low vision and blindness and refer to any degree of impairment to a person's ability to see that affects daily life.
Speech Impairment: A speech disorder is a condition in which a person has problems creating or forming the speech sounds needed to communicate with others.
Hearing Impairment: A person who is not able to hear as well as someone with normal hearing – hearing thresholds of 20 dB or better in both ears – is said to have hearing loss. Hearing loss may be mild, moderate, severe, or profound. It can affect one ear or both ears, and leads to difficulty in hearing conversational speech or loud sounds.
Rehabilitation Services: Rehabilitation is defined as a set of interventions designed to optimize functioning and reduce disability in individuals with health conditions in interaction with their environment.
